george zimmerman, who is back in the headlines of being acquitted in the murder of trayvon martin. This morning, his attorneys tell abc news, that they want the state of florida to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars of his legal bills. Abc's matt gutman is in florida with the latest on this story. Good morning to you, matt. Reporter: Good morning, elizabeth. And george zimmerman may be entitled to it. Florida allows acquitted defends to recoup a lot of their legal expenses. Everything that is lawyer fees. His defense team tells me he may have for up to $300,000. It was a trial that captivated the nation. George zimmerman, not guilty. Reporter: But an acquittal that could cost the state of florida as much as $300,000. For more than a year, george zimmerman employed a ten-person legal team, as he defended himself against the charge of second-degree murder in the shooting of 17-year-old trayvon martin. Those lawyers conducted scores of depositions, experts, and 3d animation. Now, they tell abc news, zimmerman will ask the state to pay those expenses. State law requires the reimbursement, for all but the most expensive part of his defense, lawyers fees. Zimmerman had been living off of donations, solicited on his website, which have mostly dried up. The day after the trial, his attorney told abc news, zimmerman was short on cash. Can he work? What is his future like? I don't think he can work. I don't think someone can hire him, sit in my office or sit in my store and do this with the fanfare that's going to come in the next year or two. Reporter: Zimmerman had kept a low profile after the trial until he made headlines, captured on this police dash cam video, after being stopped for speeding in texas. The first thing the former watchman tells the officer is that he has a gun in his glove box. Now, zimmerman may find himself back in the same florida courthouse where he was tried. His wife, shelley zimmerman, faces perjury about lying to the court about donations the couple received. While zimmerman is a free man, his wife faces five years in prison if convicted.
