Transcript for How to Give Back This Holiday Season
We wish you a merry Christmas this morning, so many of you are exchanging gifts at home right now but wait, it's never too late to give back during the holiday season. There are a lot of folks in need and some great ways you could help them out. ? 'Tis the season to be jolly and joyous ? Reporter: It's what holiday movies are made of. About the charity donation you asked me for yesterday put me down for -- Reporter: That spirit of giving. That much? Not a penny less. It's eye time when we're all grateful for the things that we have and so there's a very natural impulse to want to give back at that moment. Reporter: Whether a gesture of friendship. As long as you each have a turtle dove we'll be friends forever. Reporter: Or a wonderful community helping one of their own. Here, George. Merry Christmas. To my big brother George, the richest man in town. Reporter: The need is everywhere. There are millions of people who are in need. I hope that you'll take that good feeling you have today, turn that into a new year's resolution to give back year round. Did I forget something, big man? God bless us, every one. Here now is Cindy levy. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. Always good to have you here with us. Thank you. Especially on Christmas, so it is about, you know, people give presents and all that but it's about giving back and you at "Glamour" found people are into it. It's partly because of the world we live in. You look at the headlines. There's a lot of bad news and I think it feels so good to do one thing and by the way it can be a very small thing that makes an impact on so many of the issues that we see in the headlines. You're doing a pretty big thing, though called the girl project. Tell everybody about it. This is a cause that's near and dear to my heart. Glamour pledged to help support all the girls around the world out of secondary school and there are about 50 million young women in countries all over the globe who want to go to school and can't. You do not have to be at the tippy top levels of wealth to make a difference on this issue either. Through the girl project you can give as little as $5 to pay for a girl's school supplies in a place like Baltimore or $150 if you team up with people in your office or members of your family will actually pay for a girl's tuition for an entire year in some parts of the world is there that amount of money can pay for the entire year. Isn't that amazing. $150. It's not nothing but the kind of thing if you got together with a few people you could do that? Life changing over there. So you can go to the girl project.org to find out more and it's on the "Gma" and glamour websites, as well. Also something that's exciting that you're doing again at glamour, the 31 days of giving back. 31 days of giving. Is something we did for the first time ten years and ago and showed them one thing they could do every day and we got such a tremendous response we've continued it every year updating it with different causes, different issues and have three great ideas today from that calendar. Do share. The first is, you know, we have have done a lot of holiday shopping. If you want to do a little that benefits somebody else and not a lot of money go to the body shop, they are doing a project with water aid to help supply clean water to people in places like Ethiopia and one gift set, some of them are as little as $7 will pay for a day of clean water for a family which is a really good feeling, something nice to be able to do. Go to Macy's and for $30 you can buy one of those little bracelets you see over there. I'm wearing one, the hundred good deeds bracelets made buy female artisans mostly in Africa. The girls will love these. Which will help support an entire village by helping give women gainful employment and a lovely idea, one in four children letchs under the poverty line in this country. You can help provide pa joom mas, clean pajamas and a bedtime book tore those children through pajamaproject.org and $00 will pay for sets of what jammas or go to the gap, buy a set of Ba he pajamas and give it to them. Have all the donation info on their website. Just a good feeling. All you can make a child feel as she or he goes to bed at night. 3 of the 31 ideas. Can't wait to see the other ones. Thank you. Glamour's January social media issue is on national newsstands right now.
