Also this morning, Valerie bertinelli is speaking out about her weight gain and speaking up for other women just like her. After losing 40 pounds she says, yeah, a few extra pounds are back and so what. She wants to take the shame away from weight gain. ABC's Reena ninan is here with the story. Good morning, Reena. Reporter: Good morning, Lara. That's right. She's taking on fat shaming, tired of the unwanted pressure on women. Valerie bertinelli said she stopped dressing for her weight gain but is determined to get back in shape. I have lost 40 pounds. Not saying I look like I did back then but feel good. Reporter: Actress Valerie bertinelli very publicly showing off her 40-pound weight loss thanks to jenny Craig back in 2009. Even famously posing in a bikini on the cover of "People" magazine just weeks before her 49th birthday. And now after pictures recently surfaced of a curvier bertinelli, she's speaking out once again, this time fighting back against fat shaming. Why do I feel so much shame? Because the cameras are on me. Because the paparazzi can't wait to get a picture of me looking like I have gained a few pounds. It's like we have to take the shame out of it. I know. I ate an entire can of frosting, oh, what does it matter. Oh, my god, I ate an entire can. Reporter: The "Hot in Cleveland" star revealing on "The talk" she put on the weight three months ago after breaking her foot. Do not get your heart rate up. Reporter: While she admits seeing the weight creeping up was painful she also says she's learned to give herself a break. It started to panic me at a certain point. I thought, no, wait a minute. This is my body. I'm almost 54. I broke my foot. I haven't been able to move. I think even in her own mind she's comparing herself to what she was before and she probably wants to get back to that so society doesn't help at all that they're look at her and going, you gained weight. You gaped weight. It's hard enough -- Reporter: The former "One day at a time" actress is heading back to the gym and working on shedding the pounds. One thing she won't lose the confidence to be who she is at any weight. A lesson she's now hoping women everywhere will heed. We all need to give each other a break, especially women. Yay! Boy, is she right. Amen to that you're right, bertinelli refuses to starve herself into a smaller size. She's reportedly set a goal back in bikini shape by this summer. I'm sure she'll keep it and for her body type. She's such a down to Earth remarkable woman. I'm so glad she's speaking out about it. I am too. Please, let her do it on her time.
