Transcript for Trump warns GOP after McConnell blocks vote on $2,000 stimulus payments
President trump tonight attacking his own party over the $900 billion covid relief package. The president saying unless senate Republicans have a death wish, they will approve the $2,000 stimulus checks being pushed by him and the Democrats. Treasury secretary Steve mnuchin says the first $600 checks are going out tonight, but will they be increased? ABC's senior national correspondent Terry Moran is in Washington tonight. Terry, walk us through this. Reporter: Well, Tom, right now, it doesn't look good for those bigger checks. Senate majority leader Mitch Mcconnell came to the senate floor and blocked the move to get those checks sent out to Americans. It was even after the Democrats and 44 Republicans passed the bill in the house. A bipartisan majority, and after president trump is demanding the senate to do so and firing off furious tweets. Many Republicans say the nation just can't afford the bigger checks right now. So, Mcconnell is trying to sabotage this bill by adding poison pills, a committee on election fraud and stripping Twitter and Facebook liability protections. Democrats aren't going to go for that. Another stalemate in Washington while so many Americans are hurting. Tom? Terry Moran with the back and forth from capitol hill. Terry, thank you.
