And we are on the road to the oscars. Now taking a closer look at a powerful film nominated for best documentary feature. Natgeo's "The cave" and erielle reshef sat down with the doctor at the center of it. How was It was unbelievable. Lara, he hopes that the cave will shed light on the raging civil war that claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and displaced millions. She's the doctor at the center of national geographic's haunting Oscar nominated documentary. "The cave" follows the subterranean struggle of this doctor, the first female physician to run a hospital in war ravaged Syria. Velour taking riders on a chilling journey to a makeshift medical center beneath a ma Dass cuss suburb where she and her colleagues secretly treats tens of thousands men, women and children bombarded by chemical attack. A lot of doctors flee. I decided to stay. Reporter: She sat down with "Gma" just hours after arriving in the U.S. For the first time. The now 32-year-old saying she was reticent at first to allow cameras to follow her. I wanted this story to stay to tell the truth about what happened in Syria. And what is still happening now. Reporter: Ultimately risking her life to bear witness. Why was it so important to tell your truth. This is important for the history of Syria, for everyone around the world to know how the Syrian people struggle. Reporter: She was forced to plea in 2018 now living in Turkey granted a Visa to enter the United States just in time for the oscars. What do you think it will be like to hear "The cave" called out over the speaker at the oscars? It's really a pride and honor to hear that, to all the people to know what happened in the cave, it's a story. It's my reality. It is now a movie. So many referred to you as a hero. Do you believe you're a here re. I'm a human. I believe in humanity. That's why DI what I did. Important to remember the Syrian civil war lasted nearly nine years.
