This is just the latest incident of balconies, porches and backyard decks that are suddenly crashing to the ground. Reporter: And there was this incident in 2015. 24 family members injured as they were taking a group photo. Heard horrible screams, and my husband just came running in, called 911. Reporter: Of the more than 60 million decks in the country, about half of them need to be replaced or repaired. That's according to the north American deck and railing association, and experts say waterfront decks are particularly susceptible to damage. If they're near an ocean or a bay, you have more salt spray, and that salt spray can cause more corrosion on the fasteners and connecters. Reporter: And as millions of Americans plan to gather outdoors for mother's day, experts say you should be on the lookout for cracks in your balcony or deck. The biggest culprit in wooden structures tend to be rot or water damage, and it's important to check how many people or just how much weight your balcony can hold, Dan. Great advice on a mother's day morning. Thank you very much, Trevor.
