We do want to start this half hour, though, with the record number of Americans hitting the polls early. Voters across the country casting their ballots well ahead of election day. ABC's elwyn Lopez joins us with more on that from Atlanta. Elwyn, good morning. Reporter: Good morning, whit. We're just three days ahead of the election and with covid-19 cases surging across the nation, voters are doing everything they can to get their early ballot in. This morning, the final stretch of early voting amid the growing pandemic. I'm trying to help people where I can. Reporter: In hard-hit Wisconsin, coronavirus cases are surging. Hospitals are at near capacity yet workers there making sure patients like Julian get their absentee ballot in. The 23-year-old is fighting covid. That's one of my first thoughts after like my health and everything I was just like, how am I going to do this now? How am I going to vote? Reporter: And in battleground Georgia, many stood in line for hours on Friday. Their last chance to vote ahead of election day. If you're not going to vote, then you can't complain. Reporter: Other crucial battleground states like north Carolina and parts of Florida ending early voting today. Gertrude Stackhouse is 102 years old. She's lived through two pandemics, the 1918 influenza and covid-19. Now she's voting for the first time. Wonderful, wonderful. Thankful to be alive to do this. Reportettering records with at least 87 million ballots cast so far. Overnight that number doubling early turnout in 2016 at 43 in Texas, more than 9 million people already voted. That's more than all of 2016. With just a few days to go, officials in some states now encouraging voters to drop off their ballots instead of mailing them. Central Florida, security guards are keeping an eye on drop boxes day and night to ensure the integrity of the election. It made me feel just a little bit more secure knowing someone was there standing by the box and making sure that the ballot did get in. Reporter: Here in Georgia, more than 3.8 million people voters have cast their ballot ahead of election day. To put that into context, in 2016, 4.1 million Georgians voted in total. Eva.
