Transcript for Pushing through social distancing with music
way to push through this time of social distancing than with great music, and our next guest is coming at us from all angles, he just wrapped up a live virtual concert event. He's launched an Instagram performance show. He's released a new album and he was one of my favorites always. Joining me now, grammy award winner Richard Marx. Richard, thank you so much for being with us. And I know we've just mentioned you've had quite the busy lockdown schedule. You've been hosting a podcast with your wife, Daisy Fuentes. How did that all come about? Well, first of all, you flatter me, Amy, that's very sweet. But I think like any other touring musician, so that seems go, go, show next town, all year. My wife and I went into lockdown in March. I was supposed to fly to Europe and do 22 shows in Europe, and so I was faced with this abrupt halt like everybody else. But for someone like me it was the first time I think I've ever been made to be still, you know, so within a week or so I was like, I got to do something. So, little by little, my interview show, social distancing started with me zooming different friends of mine who happened to be celebrities, or in the entertainment business or whatever, just to see how they were faring through all of this. Little by little it grew. Publicities were calling, all of a sudden I became merv griffin overnight. You're a podcaster, also you've been doing those concerts on Instagram. You just wrapped up your first acoustic virtual concert, how did it feel to perform without an audience? Weird, really weird. I don't know, maybe you can relate to this, Amy, because I was doing so much zoom stuff and I was doing a lot of -- I was doing these mini-concerts for my followers on Instagram every Friday. I'd set up camera and I'd do two, three songs. So I diluted myself into thinking, oh, I relate to the camera so well now that this will be easy. I forgot that when I'm doing that, I can see myself, I can at least perform for myself. I get to this beautiful venue where we shot this virtual concert, and it was pitch black. Nothing and no one. It was a little unnerving for the first song and then I just went with it. It turned out to be fine. It turned out to be great. We're excited, we have a special treat, a performance you prepared for our viewers. Let's get right to it.
