But some very lucky children managed to get on to a united airlines flight to this holiday's hottest destination. Abc's sara haines was there for the trip of a lifetime. Reporter: It's not every day you get to fly to the north pole. But that's exactly where little anu is headed. The 4-year-old joins dozens of other deserving kids. Have fun, okay? This is how excited you are? Did I nail it? Lucky for me, I got to tagalong for the flight. I'm going to the north pole. Let me tell you, if only all commercial flights were like this. Reporter: The fun didn't stop on the plane. Greeting the kids at the north pole, a bevy of kid-friendly icons. And of course, santa himself. Amid playtime with elves, families forgot the illness, the sadness faced at home. My kids, having so much fun. Reporter: What did you think when you heard about this? I was excited. Happy. I couldn't believe it. Reporter: At day's end, came the presentation of presents. A fitting way to end the day. A christmas these kids will never forget.
