All right Mike to turn to our next segment now and in this Atlanta focused on social issues. You have both been open about the role that faith has played in your lives can you discuss indeed tea. A time when you struggles to balance your personal face and a public policy. Position senator can. That's an easy one for me maligned him into these I'm really fortune I grip on a wonderful household was great Irish Catholic parents my mom and dad are sitting right here. I was educated by Jesuits had rockers high school in Kansas in my 43 unions and and diced and I worked with jesuit missionaries in Honduras. Now nearly 35 years ago and they were the heroes of my life. I eight I I try to practice my religion and a very devout way and follow the teachings of my church. In my own personal life. But I don't believe in this nation First Amendment nation where we don't raise any religion over the other and we allow people to worship as they please. That the doctrines of any one religion should be mandated for every one. Turning to the heart of struggle. In in my face life was Catholic churches against the death penalty and so on my. But I was governor of a state. In the state. He lost said that there was about finally for crimes that the jury determined them to be heinous. And so I have to to grapple with that when I was running for governor I was attacked pretty strongly because of my position on the death happily but. I looked the voters are Virginia in the eye and said mark. This is Myron legend I'm not gonna change my religious practice to get one vote. But I know how to take notes and uphold the law and if you elect me how wallop of the law. And I was elected and I did it was very very difficult to allow executions to go forward but in circumstances where I didn't feel like there was a case for clemency. I told Virginia voters I would applaud the law and my dad. That was a real struggle but I think it is really really important that those of us who have deep faith lives. Don't feel like we could just substitute our own views for everybody else in society regardless of their. Here's. Our parents. Plus it's a wonderful question can. My Christian faith and the very heart. From who I am I was I was also raised in. In a wonderful family faith it was church on Sunday morning grace before dinner but. My Christian faith became real for me when I made a personal decision for Christ. When I was a freshman in college and I'm not trying to live that out Harvard perfectly. Every day in my life sentence and with my wife and my side we've we followed a calling in the public service where we've. We've tried who tried to keep faith with the values. That that we cherish. And for what with regard to two when I struggle I'm or I appreciate and spent and and I I have a great deal of respect for senator McCain's. Since your faith a truly do catcher but. For me I would tell you that. For me the sanctity of life. Precedes out of the belief that that ancient principle that. We're we're god says before you reformed and remind you. And so from from my first time. In public life I've sought to stand with great compassion for. The sanctity of life. State of Indiana is also sought to make sure that we expand. Alternatives and health care counseling for women non abortion alternatives we've I'm also very pleased fact we're well on our way in Indiana to becoming the most pro adoption states. In America I think if you're going to be pro life he should be should be pro adoption. But what what I can't understand us with Hillary Clinton. And now senator Cain at her side. Is to support a practice like partial birth abortion. Until hole to the view and I know senator Cain you you hold. Pro life he's personally but but the very idea that a child that is almost born into the world. Could still have their life taken from them. It's just enough to me and I and I cannot I can't conscience about. About a party that supports that or that I know you've historically opposed taxpayer funding of abortion. But Hillary Clinton's Wannstedt wants to repeal the longstanding provision in the law where we said we wouldn't use taxpayer dollars. To fund abortion so for me and my faith informs my life I try and spend a lot of time on my knees every day but. But an offer me begins. With cherishing the dignity they worth the value. Of every human life following this is a. Fundamental question. A fundamental question. Our both people out of religious backgrounds from Methodist Church experience was real informative for her as a public servant. But we really feel like you shouldn't live following. And with enthusiasm the commands of your face. But is not the role of the public servant. To mandate that for everybody else so let's talk about abortion and choice let's talk about that. We support roe vs Wayne we support the constitutional right of American women. To consult their own conscience their own. Supportive partner of their own minister about them make their own decision about pregnancy. That's something we trust American women to do that. And we don't think. That women should be punished as Donald Trump's edition for making a decision to have an abortion. Governor parents wants to. Repeal roe vs way he said he wants to put it on ash heap of history and that's a young people in the audience who weren't even warm Monroe was cited. This is pretty important. Before Roe vs. Wade states could pass criminal laws to do just that punish women if they made the choice to terminate a pregnancy. I think you should live your moral values. But the last thing the very last thing the government should do. His have lost that would punish women. Could make reproductive choices and that is the fundamental difference. Between a Clinton can detect that and a trop pens ticket that wants to punish. When I'm an artist it's it's really not Donald Trump and I would never support legislation to punish. Women who made the heartbreaking choice to and the premise and why did Donald Trump's or just never why did he say that. Well look but it's it's what he's not a polished politician like you and Hillary Clinton and so you know what I would only partly bottom out exactly the way means well and are selling what a great policy mind I'm production great line from the gospel or what brought front and a far less of a heart. That mouth speaks you know. When Donald Trump says women should be punished. Are Mexicans are ripe for some criminal I'm teller John McCain's not a hero. He is showing you who he S senator is that you've you've you've worked out that Mexican thing again. Can you defend that there are criminal aliens in this country Tim who have come into this country illegally who were perpetrating violent and take you corners of Iraq are brush against Nacchio also says and many of them are good people you cheap leaving that out of your quote if you wanted to go there although there. But here's that there is a choice here and it's that it is it is a choice on life. I couldn't be more proud of me standing that Donald Trump. Who's standing for the right to life. It's a principle that the senator came out and I'm very gentle about this is I really do respect cute it's a principle that you embraced. Hannah and I've appreciated the fact that you've supported. The Hyde amendment which bans the use of taxpayer funding for abortion in the past but that's not Hillary Clinton's you people need to understand we can come together as a nation we can. Create a culture of life more and more young people today are embracing. Life because we we we know we or them. We're we're better afford we can like Mother Teresa sort of that famous national prayer breakfast is important. Bring which are let's welcome the children into our world there are so many families left lap around the country who can't have children if we could improve options so that families that can't have children can adopt. Governor Bradley our children huge trust Brent prices anchoring this choice for themselves. Being that we could encourage people to support life of course we can but why don't you trust women. Why doesn't Donald Trump trust women. To make this choice for themselves. That's what we ought to be doing in public life living our lives of states or motivation. With enthusiasm and excitement. Convincing each other dialogue with each other about important moral issues of the day because Carter fundamental issues of morality interest leashes -- lemon make their because there is this a society can be judged by how we deals with its most vulnerable the agency confirmed the disabled and the unborn -- the lead with all my heart. I couldn't be more proud to be standing with a pro life candidate Donald Trump.
