temperatures back near 70. It is an exciting morning. Minutes away from bts joining us live. The band has helped propel k-pop into the stratosphere and this morning we're taking a closer look at how and why the music is uniting fans around the globe and T.J. Holmes is back with more on that. Good morning. How and why? Because the music is awesome. It's peppy. It makes you happy. It's upbeat. It's good stuff. Look, if you're late to the Korean pop party, bts is just the latest in a long line of Korean pop stars that have these legions of fans fueling this billion dollar industry. Reporter: K-pop, it's an undeniable global force of nature. those synchronized dance moves, those flashy outfits. and songs like this. the music gets fans all over the world on their feet and dancing. K-pop is so popular for a couple of reasons. One of them is it continues a long tradition of basically teen pop. Oops I did it again Britney spears, the backstreet boys. Everybody yeah Even the bay city rollers from the '70s. something they have done differently is the engagement with the fans and the outreach to the fans. Reporter: The groups build fandoms. If a young fan starts learning how to speak Korean because of bts or trying to figure out what some of their - lyrics mean or whatever, that makes them feel that much more invested in them. Reporter: Forging friendships in the process. Oh, oh, oh The community they feel with fellow fans camping out with them, bonding with them leads to other friendships and most of them said I've made so many friends because of bts and what more can you ask for than that? Reporter: Bts, it seems like they're new on the scene and maybe this k-pop is really making a stand in the U.S. Now but I'll take you back, the first western or U.S. K-pop hit was "Gangnam style." Remember that? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Told you I was going to take you back. All right, T.J., thank you.
