We turn to that rescue of two hikers lost for days on mt. Baldy, finally found alive after rescue crews tracked their fingerprints to find them and this morning the hikers are telling that story. Good morning, George. This is really a hiker's worst nightmare. Two advanced hikers in a relatively populated area just lost the path, but it was their experience and an ingenious tool that kept them alive. Reporter: Overnight, the frantic search for these two hikers lost for nearly five days is finally over. Eric desplinter and Gabrielle Wallace had been hiking on mt. Baldy near San Bernardino, California. Rescue teams had spent the week scouring some 19,000 acres. Helicopters taking to the skies. There's still quite a bit of ice and snow on the grounds. A lot of north-facing slopes still have a lot of ice. Reporter: Their car left in the parking lot. Search teams leaving a note on the windshield in case they returned. A set of fingerprints eventually leading search teams to the young couple. We were very grateful to be found tonight. Reporter: Moments after being found, desplinter revealing just how they survived. Rationed our food. Drank water through a life straw. Reporter: A life straw, essentially a portable filter that lets you drink directly from nature, removing bacteria and parasites. The pair separated from two of their friends who had turned back over concerns the trail was too dangerous to continue. We tried to descend through a valley but that valley was more treacherous than we thought. Reporter: This morning, they're happy to be alive. Ready to get to bed and get The two hikers miraculously didn't sustain any injuries. They were checked out by medical personnel and quickly reunited with their families, and this morning nothing but grateful to everyone who helped bring them home. They're very fortune.
