Transcript for Trump doubles down on attacks on congresswomen
fallout from president trump's attack on the four democratic congresswomen that opened up a fierce debate on race that's likely to echo all throughout the election and Terry Moran has the latest. Good morning, Terry. Reporter: Good morning. The president is continuing those attacks and following what is his classic pattern, he says something divisive or racist then he tries to walk it back denying what he actually said and then with another tweet or statement, a wick or nod he doubles down as senator Lindsey graham says he always downs down and that's what we saw him do. One of those four democratic members of congress, he says, I don't believe the four congresswomen are capable of loving our country and having a cost. A police officer in Louisiana now being suspended for tweeting -- for saying on Facebook he thinks representative Alexandria ocasio-cortez, quote, deserves a round and I don't meepdz the kind she served as a bartender suggesting maybe somebody shoot her. The president clearly thinks it is a winning strategy dividing them along racial and ethical lines. A long way to go before election day. I want to talk about Robert Mueller's testimony on Wednesday morning. He is going to be facing Democrats and Republicans who have quite different goal, likely to frustrate them both. Reporter: Exactly right, George. This is the big event in Washington this week. The Mueller testimony right Democrats want to use this testimony. They have been intensively preparing and using mock hearings trying to see how they can get Robert Mueller to help them make the case in their view president trump did have licks with Russia and definitely obstructed justice. Republicans want to use their time to press their claims that Mueller was bias and it was a deep state skulduggery but have a problem. Mueller is a notoriously reluctant witness. He doesn't want to say anything. He's made it his practice not to say much and scorn that bipartisanship. This will be his 89th appearance before congress. Thanks very much. I know you'll join us Wednesday our live coverage of Mueller's testimony starts at 8:30 eastern. I know you'll be there as well. We turn to breaking news
