The pilot who says his sole passenger simply fell. This morning, we learn new details about the mystery of the passenger who fell from a private plane in mid-air and the pilot who was flying. Mayday. Mayday. Reporter: We learned the identities of the passenger, 42-year-old gerardo and the pilot. According to wplj. He recently graduated to be a flight instructor. Here he is leaning against a cop car. He was flying the piper off the coast of miami when he radioed that his passenger opened the door and fell 2,000 feet into the atlantic. I have a door ajar. And a passenger just fell down. Reporter: The air traffic controller seemed baffled by the comments and the pilot's tone. That's correct, sir. He opened the back door. And he just fell down the plane.
