This site go. Now he's fired NBC severing ties with the 2016 Republican presidential candidate. Donald Trump after his controversial comments. About Mexican immigrants more than 200000 people signed a petition asking the TV network to dump Donald Trump. Now NBC saying it won't air the miss USA and miss universe pageants both joint ventures between trump. And the network. Hi everyone I'm Caroline Costello in new York and BC announced the firing of trump with this statement. After NBC respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values student in recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants. NBC universal is ending its business relationship with mr. trump. To that end the annual miss USA and miss universe pageants which are part of a joint venture between NBC and trump. Will no longer air on NBC. For his part trump is in Chicago today giving a speech to a sold out audience of civic leaders. Responding to his firing he said in part. Quote well I think NBC they didn't want me to run because they wanted me to do the apprentice I just told them I can't do the apprentice. And now if my statements on immigration which happened to be correct. As far as ending the relationship I have to do that because my view on immigration is much different than NBC. But even today trump did not shy away from the immigration issue. It's an honor to be here. And I have to tell you that's what I heard heard they had over 5000 people that they acted fairways and actually said like him you just think a bigger issue would have made a fortune. But they didn't do that this food must be very good to stay here but I guess it's a long term tradition. But to be. Record setting is always something and you. But I've been very strong and immigration and we have to pay and I've taken a lot of heat. And it's unnecessary very unfair because. There's my loved the Mexican people. I have a great relationship with Mexico. How can I not love people that give me tens of millions of dollars for apartment you have to love. But I love them for a lot of reasons I look for this sir. But at the same time we have to have borders. And this is it for Mexico this is for the world we have that borders if we don't have borders. We're essentially. Not a country. And that's what's happening because you have illegals that are just pouring across the borders hundreds of thousands of people. And it's a tough situation for our country you know we 018. Trillion dollars that's going up rapidly very soon we'll hit the nineteen month. When we hit 24 trillion that's like the point of no return we don't come back from that. It's the magical number. And we become a large scale version of grease. It's gonna happen it's gonna happen soon. So we have to be very very strong on. On the borders and we have to be very very strong on illegal immigration have to do it. In joining us now is ABC's political director Rick Klein. Rick the fall out keeps coming for Donald Trump are there more partnerships and deal but he stands to lose moments. This is a big blow for Donald Trump is miss USA miss universe pageants carried by NBC universal. In addition to that of course Celebrity Apprentice now this is in a bit of a limbo. Because Donald Trump has already said that he wouldn't go forward with his long running for president but I think a lot people thought that was kind of a wink and a nod. Right now this is all much larger issue Donald Trump because of these comments he's gotten himself into trouble with the nation's largest Spanish broadcaster now in BC. In addition to that he's got fewer and fewer friends as this moves forward. And what. Out his presidential campaigning and it just got started. All of this controversy but he's actually had a surprisingly strong performance in some polls. Betty he got a bounce out of his initial announcement no doubt about it it seemed to be a little bit more than even some other candidates not clear how long that will last but the backlash among Latino groups so fierce and it has Caroline a larger implications than just Donald Trump. This is a Republican Party that is trying desperately to get out from under a cloud. Of suspicion among Latinos comes after a campaign where Mitt Romney was seen as denigrating Latinos is moves to the right during the during be the primary heard him all the way along his. Comments about self deportation are enormous plate in Spanish language media back in 2012 the Republican Party said publicly. They need to do better by Latinos and they have the immigration issue. Holding them back then answer Donald Trump the newly minted presidential candidate makes these comments about Mexicans that are downright offensive and inaccurate. In addition to that and now you have those those groups calling for boycotts. Anger out there and the prospect for Republicans that he is going to be continuing distraction not dishonest this issue anything else he's prone to make news on. And Rick some people have been skeptical about whether Donald Trump. Had never even really been serious about running for president or this was all a publicity stunt. Yeah I've I've asked him that question directly and all he says is that he is real and he's doing and going moving forward uses different than 1988 it's different than 2000 is different than 20082012. When he made noises. In previous times he's gotten further this time actually filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission he hasn't done that before. Now lot it will go to the hasn't done a formal filing RR rounds his assets that actual financial disclosures he's done kind of a crib sheet to major. Back of the envelope calculation. Does he want that chemistry on its finances that might be the real question but he is a presidential candidate is filed the paperwork he's showing up in polls. As of now he is strong enough polling numbers that make the cut for the first presidential debate in about five weeks time he is a candidate for better or worse for the Republican Party. Right now it feels act a lot worse than better. ABC's political director Rick Klein thank you so much we appreciate it thank you. And you can keep up with this story in real time like Ellen and ABC news app and storing the story for exclusive updates on the go. I'm Caroline Costello in New York.
