And the other major story unfolding tonight, and it's horrific. The brutal murder of a college student here in New York City. Tonight, what police have found, and ABC's erielle reshef is on the scene for us. Reporter: Tonight, New York City police investigating the savage killing of Barnard college freshman, Tessa majors. The idea that a college freshman at Barnard was murdered in cold blood is absolutely not only painful to me as a parent, it's terrifying to think that that could happen anywhere. Reporter: Around 7:00 Wednesday evening, police say the 18-year-old from Virginia was walking through a park in a residential area just one block from Columbia university when she was attacked. There's going to be an aided female, white, stabbed at this time. Reporter: Authorities say one to three suspects demanded money before brutally stabbing majors several times. Units, kill their lights. Start circling the park. The perpetrator may still be in the park. Reporter: Majors, managing to stagger up a steep flight of stairs to a guard station. The guard calling 911. The student rushed to the hospital, but did not survive. Police finding the young victim's uncharged cell phone and a knife near the scene. Several juveniles detained for questioning as police dive teams search a pond in the park for evidence. It really could've been, like, any one of us. Reporter: Tonight, the campus community on alert. I think it just, like, shook us all to our core. Reporter: Majors' family telling ABC news, "Tess shone bright in this world, and our hearts will never be the same." Just an awful story tonight. And erielle joins us live from the scene. And erielle, police are now combing through security video and the cameras there near the park, trying to find any kind of clues? Reporter: That's right, David. There are several security cameras here in this area, including the ones right above that guard station behind us that you can see, that may prove crucial to this investigation. In the meantime, the Barnard community is coming together tonight to grieve the loss of Tessa and the NYPD has stepped up patrols in this area. David? Let's hope those cameras captured something. Erielle, thank you.
