We begin the holiday night looking up at the sky not just for fireworks but -- hurricane -- now hitting the New England coast. Bringing with it the threat of dangerous flash floods. Powerful winds at eighty miles an hour so dangerous for anyone outside. The view above North Carolina homes and hotels surrounded by water business owners trying to save what they can from the floods. Tonight this image from NASA -- -- in space over the eye of the storm the system is 400 miles wide and on the move. Let's get right to it tonight we -- in Jersey in our extreme weather team ready to go. And ABC's Matt Gutman starts us off an Atlantic beach North Carolina. Margaret crashing the North Carolina coast overnight winds topping a hundred miles per hour. A drive by hurricane blowing up transformers wind -- these treats. We felt our underscores is behind -- approached. And yet just minutes later -- in the eye of the storm there is no win. There's barely a drizzle. It's pretty eerie feeling. The wind battered for seven hours tossing boats and leaving them grounded like -- -- This storm straight at some communities -- -- surges of water and to some streets and mountains of six and two others. They sit and even -- homes like this one in Nags Head. Ed Dillon brigades of power crews -- And north Carolina's governor relieved there have been no room. Casualties or serious injuries reported. Many of these communities tonight still without power and stretches of north Carolina's coast under water roads still buckled. Folks who evacuated like McDonald's eating traffic and closed bridges to -- vacations. We were just hoping that -- you give Baghdad their day in December vacation. Eighteen hours ago this beach area was filled with sea foam and water. All the way up to the top of that -- today it's filled with beach goers trying to salvage something of the fourth of July weekend and -- -- -- --
