Well, now this morning we are celebrating the life of a TV icon. Dawn wells famous for playing Mary Ann on "Gilligan's island" passing away at 82 from covid-19. Diane Macedo joins us with a look at her legacy, good morning. Reporter: Janai, good morning. Like Somalia, "Gilligan's island" was way before my time. I have probably seen every episode. Mary and was just as iconic as the show itself, now so is the legacy she leaves mind best known for playing Mary an, the sweet girl interest Kansas on the classicgilligan's island." Reporter: At 20 she was crowned miss Nevada and went on to compete in the miss America pageant and moved on to TV appearing on shows like "Maverick." I've never seen him before. Reporter: Later took on film and theater appearing in dozens of plays. People are going to remember dawn for not only being an actress on one of our beloved sitcoms of all time, those "Gilligan's island" reruns will air forever and that is H lasting legacy. Reporter: Tina Louise who played ginger is the sole surviving member of the original "Gilligan's island" cast. She remembered wells in a statement overnight saying I will always remember her kindness to me. We shared in creating a cultural landmark that has continued to bring comfort and smiles to people during this difficult time. I hope people will remember her the way I do, always with a smile on her face. When asked by the academy wells said how she'd like to be remembered. Boy, that's a hard one, isn't it? Kind, good friend, happy, made a difference. Reporter: Wells' publicist said her real-life role includes teacher, motivational speaker and conservationalist and honored for her work with the elephant sanctuary. She certainly made a difference.
