Transcript for AG launches investigation of Russia investigation
We move on to a new twist in the Russia investigation. Attorney general William Barr is asking for a new investigation of the investigation. The third review of its kind. ABC's Mary Bruce joins us from capitol hill with the latest on that, good morning, Mary. Reporter: Good morning, George. The attorney general is now moving ahead with this investigation of the Russia investigation. He's now tapped John Durham to lead this probe into the origins of the Russia investigation and we're told he's actually already been work on this for several weeks and come, of course, after the attorney general told lawmakers here last month that he did believe that the U.S. Government spied on the trump campaign during the 2016 though bill Barr said he saw no direct evidence of wrongdoing it was something he wanted to look into and that angered many Democrats saying the attorney general was doing the president's bidding and the FBI director defended the agency's actions and refused to say that their surveillance amounted to spying. This joins an inspector general investigation and the investigation by another U.S. Meantime, Mary, turns out don junior, the president's son is going to continue to resist that call that bipartisan call for testimony to the senate intelligence committee. George, he's been subpoenaed, of course, by the Republican led senate. The question is if don junior does not comply, well, what comes next? Do Republicans here move to hold him in contempt and have a full vote or give the president's son a pass? Either way, George, it puts Republicans here on capitol hill in a very tricky position. Mary Bruce, thanks very much.
