Victor Oquendo is there in anguilla with an interview with a witness to the deadly struggle. Good morning. Reporter: As he left the courthouse he said he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. A witness said there was plenty of time to prevent Kenny Mitchel from dying. Tense moments outside the small courthouse as the Connecticut father facing a manslaughter charge returned to the caribbean island for his preliminary hearing. We all want the same thing. Justice. For me that means moving my Reporter: Scott Hapgood was on vacation and insists he was acting in self-defense when handyman Kenny Mitchel came to the family's hotel room saying he needed to fix a sink before pulling a knife and trying to rob him. The two fought. Hapgood said he was stabbed and bitten. When it was over Mitchel was dead. The coroner says from asphyxiation and blunt force trauma. A hotel bellman says he was called to the room as Hapgood pinned Mitchel down. I said you need to ease off so you could allow breathing. He told me he's not going to move. He's not going to do anything until the police arrive. Reporter: Clarke who has medical training said he could tell Mitchel wasn't breathing properly and Hapgood refused to move for nearly 30 minutes. Do you think if Scott Hapgood had let go of Kenny Mitchel when you got there he would be alive today. I believe so. Reporter: Clarke believes Mitchel died before getting to the hospital. I even turned on the oxygen tank but then when looking at Kenny, you know how the mask fogs up from the carbon dioxide. You could tell -- I did not see any signs of that. Reporter: Unconfirmed toxicology report states Mitchel had high levels of alcohol and cocaine in his system, but Mitchel's family and friends outside the courthouse saying that's one-sided. They're convinced that Hapgood is at fault. I wish him good luck. It's one thing, I wish him good luck with his life. With his life. Reporter: Hapgood is out on bond.
