Transcript for Doorbell camera helped lead to capture of escaped Tennessee inmate
Ginger, thank you so much. To the capture of that Tennessee inmate who had been on the run for days escaping prison on a tractor. He was finally taken into custody after a couple spotted him on their surveillance camera. ABC's Victor Oquendo has the very latest. Reporter: This is the chilling video from a ring surveillance camera that helped lead to the capture of convicted kidnapper and accused murderer Curtis ray Watson who had been on the run for five days. We were awakened by the alarm on the ring doorbell saying that someone was in our back yard. Reporter: Early Sunday morning homeowners spotting Watson wearing camouflage, rummaging through an outdoor refrigerator, the first confirmed sighting since his Wednesday escape. She said that's him, that's him. I prepared for if he tried to come inside and then we called Reporter: Watson still looking very much like his mugshot. Middle of the night you look at some person that's standing outside at your refrigerator two or three feet from my entrance, yeah, I was frightened. Reporter: He had been serving a 15-year term for kidnapping his then wife. He was on lawn mowing duty last Thursday morning and that's when authorities say he entered the home of nearby resident Debra Johnson where he sexually assaulted and killed her. Reporter: Watson surrendered without incident, hands up, went to his knees and gave up now he could face the death penalty. Debra Johnson's family say they're thankful but have so many questions.
