To capitol hill where GOP congresswoman Liz Cheney is about to get ousted from her leadership post for speaking out against Donald Trump's false claims about the election. She made it clear last night she's not going down without a fight and Rachel Scott has all the latest. Good morning, Rachel. Reporter: George, good morning. This was a fiery last stand from congresswoman Liz Cheney. She made it clear this is larger than one vote. This is a moment of reckoning for the Republican party. Overnight just hours before a vote ha could remove her from party leadership congresswoman Liz Cheney took to the house floor defiant. Today we face a threat America has never seen before, a former president who provoked a violent attack on this capitol in an effort to steal the election has resumed his aggressive effort to convince Americans that the election was stolen from him. He risks inciting further violence. Reporter: Cheney saying speaking the truth is more important than pushing the party line. Remaining silent and ignoring the lie emboldens the liar. I will not participate in that. I will not sit back and watch in silence while others lead our party down a path that abandons the rule of law and joins the former president's crusade to undermine our democracy. Reporter: But the top Republicans in the house say that message is distracting. Leader Kevin Mccarthy insisting his party can't focus on relitigating the past. Even as former president Donald Trump continues to push false claims about an election he lost. In a statement last night calling it rigged. Trump has endorsed congresswoman Elise Stefanik for the job. She voted to overturn the election results and senator Mitt Romney, one of the few Republicans coming to Cheney's defense warning that Republicans are making a political mistake, tweeting, expelling Liz Cheney from leadership won't gain the GOP one additional voter but it will cost us quite a few. Now, house Republicans will huddle behind closed doors this morning.
