Transcript for Health hacks to help everyone feel great during the stressful holiday season
hacks. So many of us already have stress-related health issues. We're here with integrative health expert Dr. Taz to talk about some of the home remedies to keep us feeling great through the holidays. I have an idea of why people might feel worse during the holidays, but do they? Is it something to do with the holiday time? There's a reason for it. I think so many of us get these subliminal messages that our families are supposed to be perfect and everything is supposed to look great, and that's not reality. If you're isolated or alone it can be a tough time of year. It's also a time of year where people suffer from S.A.D. Or seasonal affective disorder and the cold weather and dark makes them feel bad. On top of that, this is the time of year where everyone walking around with low vitamin D levels, that triggers depression. They're going to feel it at this time of year more so than any other. Let's talk about some of the issues people are going to be experiencing. Heartburn. Do you feel that more during the holidays? You do because think about it. We're eating like greasy, spicy, creamy, really rich foods and we're usually drinking a little bit more than we normally do. All of that puts pressure on that stomach and that valve between the stomach and the esophagus. All of that stomach acid comes right back up. That's why so many complain about reflux through the holidays. Let's reveal this remedy you have for us. I love apple cider vinegar. I was shocked by this. I love it. It is so easy. What you want to do is take a tablespoon, dilute it in a cup of water then sip on it throughout the day and it will help to control reflux because it's improving the digestive process. Before or after you eat? Any time. You can do it at any time throughout the day. Just kind of have a little bit by my desk and sip on it as the day goes by and helps the gut. Helps the belly. That's a great tip. Another big thing, blood pressure. We eat so much during the holidays but something else we should look out for. Right, I don't think a lot of people don't realize how much salt is in our holiday meals, so what we can do is substitute that salt in different ways. Now, most people with high blood pressure should be keeping salt under about 1.5 or 2 grams a day but we've got a hack here which is amazing. So instead of using salt really season your food with herbs like sage and thyme. We all love to use that anyways and lots of great spices like cumin or paprika. Say Santa brings a big Barbie dream house to your house and you pull your back trying to lift that around. Or those Christmas lights. What's one of the holiday hacks for the muscle pain sometimes you get during the We're all doing things and using muscles we haven't used in the whole year. That's why a lot of people get those aches and pains. I love using epsom salts. Epsom salts actually help to relax muscle sprains and strains. Take a cup and put it in bath water and watch that stuff go away. And CBD oil using it topically can help take down muscle inflammation as well. So the CBD oil, you definitely recommend it. I like it topically. We've used it orally for different conditions as well. Interesting. That sounds good. All of Dr. Taz's hacks are on our website, goodmorningamerica.com. And you can catch her on her podcast "The Dr. Taz show." Thank you.
