Transcript for Is vaping more dangerous to your heart than cigarettes?
We move to our "Gma" cover story and talk to Jen Ashton. A health alert about vaping. A landmark new study shows it may be more harmful to your heart than traditional cigarettes and Dr. Ashton is here. Pretty alarming headline. Break it down for us. Good morning. Just maybe an important piece of the puzzle in looking at vaping and its effects. It was small and had two groups head-to-head. Combustible and e-cig smokers and measured blood flow to the heart muscle. Those who smoke combustible cigarettes had lower blood flow to their heart during periods of physical stress. People smoking e-cigs had lower blood flow to the heart muscle not just during physical stress but rest. That implies much more vascular or blood vessel effect. All this evidence is piling up these chemicals that go along with the nicotine are causing big problems. Big news out of the CDC, they identified as major culprit from the vaping-related illness cases we've been following vitamin E acetate, a sticky substance and does not do well in the lung tissue and they're starting to really lay out what exactly is making people so sick. Such a real danger. Jen Ashton, thanks very much.
