ABC news has learned that Alan gross an American aid worker imprisoned there for the last five years accused by the Cubans of spying. He's on his way home. Pres Obama poised to announce new steps to repair relations between the US and Cuba. Let's go to ABC's Jim abelow who is breaking this story from Miami Jim. Good morning George this is indeed an historic day in the relationship between Cuba and the United States a strained relationship. As you say ABC news has learned exclusively that Alan gross the 65 year old United States government contractor. Who was arrested. For spying and espionage in Cuba and jailed for five years has now been released. He is on an airplane a free man and on the way back in the United States we understand he will land in Washington DC and perhaps speak at that moment. Now we also told that the president will be speaking later today about the significance of this prisoner swap today also being returned were to understand. Our three Cubans agents who were in the United States. And arrested in the ninety's for espionage here they will be returned to Havana. This is more than just a prisoner swap though George this is in fact the first steps to a better relationship between Cuba and the United States.
