If that's what the show is able to do, there's something good to be said about it. Going to george, with john mayer and katy perry. Here on the couch. I want to talk to both of them. The two of you never sat down for a tv interview together. Yeah. We don't know what kind of body languages we're supposed to be exhibiting. You get too close, it's too touchy feely. And you get too far, they say, i don't see chemistry. They'll see chemistry in the video. How did it happen? You had been kicking around a song like this for a while. I had the chorus for years. You love who you love. And for people to feel that sort of permission. And then, it came back -- kept it in a desk drawer. And it came out again. You have to play stuff for other people. They don't know if it's new or old. It's nice to have an unbiased ear. And played it for don, the producer of the record. He said, that's something. I don't know. He said, why don't you get katy to do it? The first thought was, you can't do that. I'll just get -- you know. And the more I thought about it, just the music part of it, it made perfect sense. Even if I didn't know katy. It would have made perfect sense. But because you did know her -- it was an easy phone call. It was a text. I went in the other room. Called her phone. For me, it had to be about -- it always has been about the song. If the song is great, you're in a bubble of authenticity, i think. And if the performance is great, she gives an incredible performance. That's a pretty big moving target to be a couple and have a song. But there's an authenticity to it when you hear it. It transcends us. And it's more about the message of the song. But you do put yourselves out there. We have to go at some point from the car to the front door. We have it out there. Yes. But that's the simple life of moving from the car to the front door. This is the first time we've put ourselves out there. For this wonderful music. You have a lot of twitter questions coming in. Fluffy unicorn. I thought I blocked fluffy unicorn. What did you do on your first date? We went to dinner, like a regular couple. We share music as a love. That's a someone interest. And then, it's spiritual. What was the funniest moment backstage when shooting the video? There was no video. The only video we've shot so far is "who you love." "Spiritual" is a song -- we mess around in the studio. We were in the studio. I come in the studio and she plays stuff and I go -- and I'll hear a melody. She'll be writing something. And I'll go -- don't. Or I'll just pick up a guitar and play something. Come here. And I sang this in my iphone while you were in there. You're wrapping up this leg of the u.S. Tour tonight. Tonight, yeah. How has it been for the first time? It was really great. It wasn't like I woke up and i had the whole range of my voice back. It's been, like, getting -- your dad letting you use the car a little bit at a time. As it goes on, you have to show that you're responsible with it. For me, I'm singing better and better each night. And it's really taught me to appreciate the voice as an instrument. Not something that you can keep doing whatever you want to. You've been doing something great with this tour. A lot of the proceeds are going to veterans suffering from ptsd. And you're about to get started with a unicef goodwill ambassador? Yeah. I kick off my tour in may. Love your instagram coming in yesterday. You're really going to do "gma" right. You promised to bring in your christmas -- we slaved for hours this morning. It's right here. Tune into "gma." Katy and I are going to premiere our new video. And watch us give away our press by. For the biggest crossover you've ever seen. And the widest you can go with an instagram joke. That's deep and wide with the joke. They're a little cold. I thought I made them warmer. They look good. It would have made a great segment if we were cooking together.
