Reporter:43-year-old amy bassey on trial in las vegas this morning, accused of trying to plot her then-husband of 18-year-old, for his $250,000 life insurance policy, just before their divorce was to be finalized. The only thing they didn't plan for was for robert to survive, which he did. Reporter: In a disturbing twist, prosecutors claim she recruited her brother, richard pearson, and her son, michael, who robert adopted, to carry out what was supposed to be a fatal drive-by shooting. I'm on the highway. I'm still conscious. Reporter: In court, prosecutors played the 911 call he made during the alleged incident, when he was hit by gunfire that allegedly came from this gold suv. I don't know if I've been shot or -- but I'm bleeding like hell. Reporter: Robert, then reliving the moment in court. I felt a hot sensation here. And towards the back of my neck. And would it be fair to say, dr., That robert is lucky to be alive today? Extremely lucky. Reporter: In an awe owe recording, prosecutors say amy bessey acted surprise when they told her her husband had been shot and survived. I see you're upset. Changes everything. If he hadn't survived, we'd be having this trial, likely. He's the one that said gold suv. The fact that he survived allowed them to figure out who was behind this. And "b" it allows him to testify about their relationship and the problems they were having. He's crucial. And I think that because he's testifying that you might see her now forced to testify. That's what I was going to ask you. Why? Typically, in a case like this. You say, do you expect the person to testify? The answer is almost always know. In connection to this kind of case, where he is giving such specific accounts of their relationship of how it was disintegr disintegrating, his concerns, how others are coming out against her. I think this is the case where she may have to get on the stand and offer up explanations. She's not claiming -- no one is claiming she was the person who pulled the trigger. She has to say, I had nothing to do with this. And this is why. And only she can provide those explanations. That's right. Now, to what could be the
