hospitality. Elizabeth vargas got together with country music legend, host of "trisha's shorn kitchen," trisha yearwood. She will show us how to start the new year right with a couple delicious breakfast dishes. We are kicking off the new year with some southern hospitality. We're very happy to have country music legend, trisha yearwood the host of the food network's "trisha's southern kitchen" here to make great breakfast dishes. Something we can have for breakfast or dessert later in the day. I always think apple dumplings sound hard, cinnamony and dough. There's got to be something in the middle. This is a recipe that's easy. I taught my niece ashley how to do it at college, she got her first apartment. I'll show you how to do it. Perfect. I'm game. The stuff that you're going to pour over this -- heat is already on. Cup of water. The heat is supposed to boil. We'll bring all this to boil. A stick of butter. Step back. I won't hurt you. And stir that until it melts. We'll stir it until it melts and comes to a boil then we'll add some sugar. About 3/4 of a cup of sugar. So it's a pretty simple mixture that's a lot of sugar. Shh. Then we'll add vanilla. Apple dump lings, they're sweet. We bring that to a boil which we have expertly -- your "good morning america" crew brought to a boil. Tah-dah. We'll show you how to put the dumplings together. The easy thing about this is bi sch biscuit -- take a biscuit -- I'll give you one, make it as flat as you can. If you have -- if you have bigger biscuits like the big fluffy ones you can pull them apart -- how flat do you want it to get. Pretty flat. About like that. Flatten it out like you're going to -- it's going to be real stretchy. That's good. We'll take an apple. Peeled and -- a couple apples peeled and sliced and -- nothing else? That's it. All you have to do is to make sure that the dough seals itself. Wow. Oh, wow, this is easy. That's your dumpling right there. Put it in the pan and the -- then we'll -- cinnamon. Cinnamon and sugar. Yum. The more the merrier. Wow. It smells divine. We pour our butter mixture. Bold butter mixture which is now here. Okay. Over the top. Just pour the whole thing into -- how many is this? Like 18? I don't know. Okay, folks. Division and multiplication was a long time ago. It's about 16 apple slices if you do two apples then we'll take this sugar and cinnamon mixture and sprinkle it on top. Do it with your fingers, a spoon or eyeball it. My kids would love this. They would really like this. That is it. Cook it for about 30 minutes and there you go. That's it. That's it right there. I have to try this. This looks so good. In the meantime you have something else. This major bowl is garth's Your husband. A serving size. He doesn't eat that whole thing. So funny. What's a garth breakfast bowl? It is basically he went to the nd said, okay, what do we have in the fridge? It's all piled together. Eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage, tortellini. That's one thing people don't know. Scrambled eggs with a little pasta in it is really good. Texture and some firmness and all the basic food groups kids like. Eat that and take a nap for two days. And literally throw anything on there. Really, whatever you like. Trisha yearwood, happy new year. Happy new year to you. These apple dump lings are phenomenal. Her show is on the food network.
