Transcript for MLB pulls All-Star game out of Atlanta
Georgia governor Brian Kemp is lashing out against major league baseball's decision to move the all-star game out of Georgia because of the state's new voting laws. He says Democrats are lying when they say the law restricts access to the polls and that moving the game just takes away millions in revenue from Georgians who desperately need it right now. I guess people are asking did MLB make the right call, sunny? I absolutely believe they made the right call. I mean, we want our corporations to be good corporate citizens and take these types of positions. I think it's fascinating that Republicans on the one hand believe it's also appropriate for corporations to give millions of dollars, millions of dollars, to politicians who pass laws restricting the constitutional right to vote and to make it difficult, in particular black and brown, people to vote. Yet they have a problem when those same corporations make statements in support of access to vote. Let's face it, there's always been a nexus between politics and sports. The bottom line is this is not the first time that governor's Kemp's policies have affected the people of his state. This falls squarely on the shoulders of governor Kemp and the Republican politicians in the state of Georgia. This has very little to do with the corporations in Georgia. I hope it will see more corporations like delta, like the MLB, like Coca-Cola come and step out and be good corporate citizens and support the constitution of the united States. Sara, who do you think this decision is going to hurt most? I think it's going to hurt the people in the lowest socioeconomic wrungs of Georgia, which is the sad part. I fully support of what sunny is saying, making political statements with the mighty dollar. When it comes to an event that offers so many jobs to people, I feel like the very people that are being hurt by these voter suppression in the law that just passed, will be hit twice and on the heels of a pandemic hit which we already will see the economy tumble. Even Stacey Abrams said that Georgians targeted by voter suppression will be hurt as opportunities go to other states. Although she supports corporate citizenship, she said it will hit the people with the lowest incomes, oftentimes disproportionately people of color twice. I understand what they were trying to do, but I think taking the jobs away was not a good idea. We'll talk more about this when we come back. secret to great teeth... Is having healthy gums. We're talking about major league baseball's boycott in Georgia. You know, I want to start with the fact that the bill was created because of a lie. That's the first thing. All those people came out and voted. People got up who are 90, 100 years old got in cars with family members and went to vote. People are going to vote. The craziest thing about this to me is that the bill takes away power from local officials to oversee elections. Now the secretary of state led the board of elections and had
