Transcript for Beauty brand designs nail polish for people of color
We are back with the growing beauty brand based in Las Vegas devoting to enhancing the nails of people with color with specially designed Polish shades and the inspiration behind it all. Take a look. I'm Jacqueline Carrington. I'm the founder of people of color, a nail Polish brand. I was inspired to come up with my own nail Polish brand from my daughter. Her and my son would go to my mom's house and she would come home with her nails painted. I did not grow up with my nails polished. I played basketball. I also never saw nail Polish shown on brown hands. I could never envision the colors on myself. The meaning behind naming the brand people of color is because I took a look at my family and noticed the various shades of brown skin represented just in my family. I wanted to pick out colors that complimented the various shades of brown skin as a first thought, not an after thought. Feedback from customers have been overwhelmingly supportive. People felt the same way I did with regard to nail Polish itself, to not seeing colors represented on their skin tones. It feels different when you see something that is trying to speak directly to you and is shown and represented through everything that the brand does, including the ownership. The pandemic has affected my business in a positive way. More people were doing their nails at home. More people were even learning how to do their own nails. Before the pandemic, I was doing in-person events and pop-ups at the local markets versus being focussed on ecommerce and online it's very important for me to have my daughter understand that she was the inspiration behind it. Being able to look at her knowing that I am making a difference, makes me very happy because it's a legacy I'm able to leave that they can carry on and know that, you know, I was a part of that change and now they can carry on that for me. My advice for black business owners and just business owners in general would be to just do it. Make a plan and execute it and then just keep going. Keep pushing forward because eventually something is going to give. Of course, you need to adjust as necessary. Just keep moving forward. Perfect advice, Jacqueline. Thank you so much for that.
