Welcome both of you. You say the number of times we laugh plummets at around age 23. If we find ways to increase that number and laugh more often, it will have a positive impact on our health. Just made T.J. Laugh. How so? When we laugh, our brains release a cocktail of hormones. We get endorphins. We feel calmer and less stressed. We also release oxytocin. In essence, laughter is like exercising, meditating and having sex at the same time. Plus it's all hr approved. These changes in our physiology have very real health benefits for us. One study conducted over 15 years found that people with a sense of humor are 30% more resistant to severe disease and they live on average eight years if you think about what makes you laugh, whether it's someone you live with, someone you zoom with, these things are keeping us healthy. Did you just tell me laughter is the equivalent of exercising, meditating and having sex at the same time? It releases many of the same brain chemicals. I was laughing a lot this morning. Didn't feel like any of those three to me. Dr. Aaker, let me bring you in there. We all go to work. It's supposed to be a serious place. How do we incorporate some fun in an environment where we're used to it being a serious one? Absolutely. First of all, it's important to know that this isn't about being funny. Pressure is off. Not about being funny. It's about showing up as human. There's interesting research to support why this is so important at work. What we find is leaders that rate themselves as having a sense of humor, not being funny, a sense of humor, tend to be 27% more motivating. Their employees are 15% more engaged at work and their teams tend to be twice as effective. Leaders make more money. In one study researchers showed adding a light hearted line to the end of a sales pitch increases the propensity to pay. If you say my final author is X and I'll throw in a pet frog, customers will pay 18% more. You get more based on the bad dad joke. That's hilarious. I'm happy to hear everything you I've never been funny, but I do like to laugh. I said I have a laughing disorder. Everything is funny to me. You say that laughter not only can make you more money and make you feel great, it can make your relationship stronger? It can. Laughing with someone, not at them, is a show of empathy. When you laugh, I see you, I get you. How do we laugh together more? How do we flex this empathy muscle? One way is to get to know each other's humor style -- the stand up, the sweetheart, the sniper and the magnet. Snipers are edgy and sarcastic and magnets are uplifting and charismatic. The more you know these styles, the easier it is to read the room and drop that frog joke. That was brilliant. I'm a sniper. Who knew? I did. Thank you for making the distinction between laughing with and laughing at. Don't do stupid things and I won't laugh at you. Don't laugh at that. Dr. Aaker, one last thing, how do we inject humor into our daily routine? Some little things we can do. Know your style. T.J., you're a sniper. Understanding the style of other people around you like Amy's that has an effect on how much empathy you have for others. This is a great parenting tip. We make our kids fill out questionnaires and we understand their humor more. Nothing more powerful than making your kid feel like they're funny.
