We're back now with the mom of four and teacher turning her children's education into a small business success story for the whole family. I'm Jessica downes-stuebner. A mom of four. I'm the founder and co-owner of pupil pod. Prior to the pandemic I was a teacher for over ten years, the pandemic affected us like it affected many people. I was a stay-at-home mom, I was relying on my husband's income, and he was unable to look for another job because of covid. In the beginning of July, I was just a parent who had received my school district's plans for fall learning. My number one concern was, what to do with my children that would allow them to safely be educated in the fall. My husband and I decided to pivot, so I was looking at a model in Atlanta where they were starting pandemic podding for academics. A pupil pod is a pod of four to six students, typically of the same academic range. A certified teacher comes to your home who's completely vetted through clearances, FBI fingerprints and child abuse clearances, we make a match with the family. Every single parent I speak with has the most common concern which is their child contracting covid-19 or perhaps bringing it into the home. Because our pods are limited number of students it's easier to contact trace and it's easier to follow all safety protocols. It's a safer alternative to learning. Overall, the response has been so positive, parents are really excited that we can offer an option and we can offer it now. We have teachers who are retired, who are looking to get back into the workforce in maybe a part-time manner and teachers right out of college who are looking to get a job but can't because of covid. We're hiring a lot of those candidates. And I'm so happy to be able to help teachers who have similar concerns. I've always felt that students and teachers are the most precious and most essential and so I really wanted to pay them back and I'm really happy to be able to do that.
