LAPD officers chasing down a suspect when bullets came flying from a different direction. This morning, new dramatic video of a police foot chase in los Angeles that ended in this apparent ambush. Just moments earlier that body cam shows him running behind his partner trying to track down a suspect from a traffic stop. Foot pursuit. Foot pursuit. Man with a gun. Reporter: These maps provided by LAPD show the officers pursuing the car's driver throughout the housing complex unaware that another man was pursuing them. The gunman opening fire from just feet away as soon as he came face-to-face with one officer. The firefight leaving both the officer and the alleged gunman wounded. Hit my leg. He shot you? He pointed a handgun at him and shot him. The officer immediately drew his weapon and returned fire. Reporter: Officers calling for backup and ambulances with an angry crowd of residents growing at the scene. All units, officer needs help. Reporter: Police identifying the alleged gunman as 39-year-old Curley duff, a man they say has a criminal record and now facing a charge of attempted murder of a police officer. The officer and suspect did survive that shooting. No word yet on the official charges against the suspect. But this is an example of how a routine patrol can turn in an instant.
