Here we go, security prep is kicking into high gear in New York City's times square, ahead of new year's eve. ABC's Diane Macedo is ahead of that famous ball with a look at what the NYPD is putting into place. Diane, good morning to you. Reporter: Good morning, whit, I definitely have the best assignment of the day. The new year's eve ball is the big star of the show. And behind the NYPD and other agencies ensuring that this celebration is a safe one. The police commissioner says there is currently no credible threats to any event in New York City, but still he says plans for this new year's eve started when the last piece of confetti dropped last new year. When you hear what's in store, it's easy to understand why this take as year to plan. There will be thousands of cops in times square. The bomb squad, radiation detective teams. There will be trucks blocking every intersection, emergency units. They'll also be patrolling the waters of both the Hudson and east river and they'll patrol by air. Not only by helicopter but for the first time this year they'll also be patrolling by drone. The goal, of course, to keep the estimated 2 million people who come to times square to celebrate safe. And what are they all coming to see? The iconic new year's eve ball. But get this, this ball, it's a little bit different from the one we saw last year. So we're going to find out how they get this baby up here. We'll also find out all about the new design. That's all coming up, but the big question today, guys, is will I be able to resist the urge to flip the switch, because I want to so badly right now. I mean what does it do at this point?
