Transcript for Tom Brady's parents reveal critical COVID-19 battle ahead of Super Bowl LV
A lot of turmoil in that thanks very much. Tom Brady and his family's private struggle with covid as the legendary quarterback gets ready for super bowl LV we're learning both of his parents came down with serious cases of the virus early in the season. Janai Norman has the story, good morning, janai. Reporter: Hey, George, good morning. If you think back to early in the football season one big headline was Tom Brady's performance. In his first game with the buccaneers against the saints he was intercepted twice, sacked three times and many questioned whether he still had it. Turns out both of his parents had covid-19. His dad calling it a matter of life and death and saying it stressed out the legendary quarterback as he worried while taking the field. The Tampa bay buccaneers and Tom Brady are going to super bowl LV. Reporter: Tampa bay buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady securing his tenth super bowl appearance and right after sharing this heartfelt moment with his son jack. Love you, kiddo. Reporter: But just days later his parents revealing they both suffered from covid-19. In an interview with ESPN host Mike Greenberg his father, Tom Brady Sr. Admitted they never missed a game but had to stand down during the opening weeks of the NFL season. For the first two games, when I was in the hospital I didn't even care if they were playing, much less missing the game. It was a matter of life and death. Reporter: Tom Brady Sr. Hospitalized with the virus in early September as his son made his debut with his new team. I don't think there's been a more anticipated uniform change, maybe in the history of the league. Reporter: Brady struggled in that opening game losing to the saints and throwing two interceptions. His father revealing the diagnosis was potentially weighing on him. Tommy's trying to facetime me every day on his way to and from practice and stressed out on this stuff. Reporter: Brady's mother a breast cancer survivor was also diagnosed with covid but did not require a hospital stay. We're fine. It's just one of those experiences that for us, for our family starting out the season, football was the least important thing in the world. Reporter: So they have both recovered from covid-19 and it's safe to say that Tom Brady has recovered from that dismal season opener. His parents will reportedly be in the stands to watch him take the field for his tenth super bowl, Amy. Very good to know the bradys are all doing well. Thank you very much.
