We turn now to a deadly accident on the tracks in san francisco where bay area rapid transit known as bart employees are out on strike and the trains are not running. But two experiences maintenance workers were hit and killed by an out of today's special value train. Aditi roy has the story. Reporter: The train in question still remains on the tracks near san francisco and in the meantime the ntsb is investigating. We just struck some individuals at approximately 16 decimal two. Reporter: The emergency call came in immediately after this bart train hit two workers, killing them. Central be advised it may be bart employees. Reporter: Soon after bart employees confirmed the victims were employees who were examining the tracks before the out of service train crashed into them. They were out looking for what was reported to us from an earlier train that there might be a slight dip in the rail. Reporter: The collision which has prompted an ntsb investigation comes in the middle of a strike by bart union workers. Officials say one of the victims is a contractor while another was a union member who showed up to work. Union members held a candle light vigil for both victims. We're sad to say that we lost a good friend, family and we're saddened. Reporter: But officials said in a statement the train had an experienced operator at the controls, but that the train was in automatic control during the incidents. Both sides of the labor fight now coming together to grieve. Our hearts go out to the family of both workers as well as the person operating the train. The labor issues, the negotiations are not in the forefront of our mind. We've just lost two people in the bart family. Reporter: While the strike does continue today, union workers will not be picketing the lines out of respect for the victims. Paula, dan? Thank you for your reporting.
