The latest oes the boston bombing investigation. The big questions for katherine russell, the american woman from rhode island what is the widow of the oldest suspect. What did she know about his terrorist ties? Gio benitez is in cambridge with the latest. Reporter: Good morning to you, robin. She's just 24 years old and lived here with suspect number one. Investigators want to hear from her. This morning, kate russell is a single mother. Her husband, amerlan tsarnaev, man authorities call a terrorist. Killed in friday's firefight. A woman shrouded in mystery. She was once an all-american teenager, fascinated with the arts. Playing the saxophone and drawing. We spoke to her lawyer at her family's rhode island home, where she fled after learning her of husband's death. And where authorities visited her several times. We're doing our best to deal with a difficult situation. This family is going through a lot. So -- that's what -- that's -- that's the bestky do right there. Reporter: Russell and tsarnaev married about three years ago. Giving birth to a daughter. I have seen the baby playing in the yard. Everybody seemed happy. Reporter: Her friends said he was controlling her. She dropped out of college after meeting him. Disappointing news for her former high school art teacher. I remember the conversations that she was very intelligent. She would, you know, definitely add to discussions in the class. Reporter: And while friends say she was never relunge use, abc news has learned she converted to islam sometime after she and tsarnaev got married. Her family has spent more than a decade in this home. A home put up for sale just days ago. When asked about tsarnaev being a suspect in the marathon bombing, the family said in a statement, quote in the afternat of the patriots day horror, we know that we never really new tamerlan tsarnaev. Meanwhile, her lawyer told the associated press that she never suspected anything. And that, in fact, she learned he was a suspect by seeing it on tv. Robin? Thank you, gio. For more, we're bringing back dan abrams. We know she's not in custody. What does that tell you how authorities view her? Nothing yet. Let's assume for a moment, we don't know this to be true, let's assume the authorities are suspicious. They want to gather as much information as they can first. If they take her into custody, she becomes an official suspect. Rights kick in. No need to do that right now. They want to gather as much information as they can. No evidence she knew anything about the bombings. If she did, what does she face? Knowledge alone typically wouldn't be a serious crime. In this case, the authorities would figure out a way, an accessory, aiding and abetting. At the least, it's a federal crime if you know about a felony, a crime that is almost never used. But they could charge her for actively concealing the crime if she knew about it, had nothing to do wit, wasn't involved in it, but concealed it. They could charge her with that crime, only faces up to three years in prison though. What about spousal privilege, even though her husband is dead? She could say I won't disclose confidential conversations. She's aloud to not testify about those. If she says she's going to invoke spousal privilege, they'll say, okay, no problem. Here's the list of crimes we're considering charges you with. They'll then add a long series of crimes, that could be very, very serious. Some of them as serious as the crimes he's facing. Think these authorities will play a no-nonsense with her if they get that response. Let's get the latest on the jodi arias trial.
