We're the ones who are supposed to be at the forefront of making change in society happen. Reporter: What happened next according to Mcgowan, she says she was fired by her agency innovative artists. Did you say why are you terminating me? Shouldn't I be terminating you? Right. No, actually I just wrote back you're hilarious. That was my response. You're hilarious. Like come on. Hollywood, get a better script. This one is predictable. Reporter: Innovative artists said Mcgowan said she no longer wanted to be with them. Do you think you'll be blacklisted because of this? I don't care. Bring it. You know, you want to play, let a play. Reporter: Mcgowan's story resonating. Fellow actress Jessica Chastain tweeting her treatment confirms the misogyny underpinning the industry. It was another log on the fire for this whole ongoing story about the problem of women in Hollywood. People are paying more and more attention to the inequities. Reporter: Adam Sandler's team denies any association with that casting note telling ABC news they felt it was completely inappropriate and have made sure that it is not sent out again. Is that enough? I think that's a wonderful start. Reporter: For now she's focusing on the future and her new role as director.
