Reporter: One person, a 32-year-old woman, left dead. 19 more rushed to the hospital. The ipg ris are ranging from life threatening to minor at this point. Reporter: The disruptive aftermath leaving bystanders forring for their loved ones. I need my sister! Reporter: Others pitching in. Desperately serging for help. This following nearly 24 hours of unrest. White lives matter, white lives matter! Reporter: People protesting the removal of the statue of general Robert E. Lee. Chaos in the streets. As demonstrators clashed with counterprotesters. The governor declaring a state of emergency. There is fighting happening in the streets. Reporter: Police usinging pepper stray. Then the situation taking that deadly (turn. You're still shake? I am. I'm calming down. I saw the car coming down the hill. Throwing bodies over top of it. You saw the smashed windshield. That is going to stay with me for awhile. Reporter: The fields was charged with second degree murder as well as failing to stop at a deadly accident. He's being held without bond, guys. Thanks, Eva. Chilling to think that the damage to the car was caused by human bodies. After almost 18 hours of continuous violence, last night, surprisingly quiet. Reporter: It was very quiet here. Police were given extra powers last night. The ability to enforce a curfew. A curfew they didn't need to enforce because it remained quiet through the night.
