Cruz who has been gaining ground on Donald Trump and the polls is angry over a political cartoon featuring his daughters. This as Donald Trump intensifies his attacks on Hillary Clinton. Tom llamas is in today for Amy also covering the campaigns for us and you've got the details. Good morning, this is a big story. Now "The Washington post" has taken down that political cartoon from their website that targeted senator Ted Cruz's young children. The paper saying it has a policy to leave children out of editorial cartoons but the personal attack on his family may help Cruz now fund-raising off this incident while some of his rivals come to his defense. Senator Ted Cruz taking on a major newspaper saying it crossed the line for cheap laughs. Cruz outraged "The Washington post" ran this cartoon depicting his two young daughters as toy monkeys attached to his presidential campaign after the 5 and 7-year-old appeared in a Christmas themed campaign ad on television. The grinch who lost her e-mails. I know just what I'll do, she said with a snicker, I'll use my own server and no one will be the wiser. Reporter: Several gop candidates quickly came to the senator's defense. In a tweet Marco Rubio called the cartoon disgusting. Not much ticks me off. But making fun of my gir, that'll do it. I mean, all of us learned in kindergarten, don't hit little girls. It's not complicated, don't make fun of a 5-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl. Reporter: Donald Trump telling Fox News the cartoon was inappropriate. I mean it's one thing to talk about your children, but it's another thing the way they were depicted. I don't even mention how they were depicted but these are two beautiful children and you just can't do that. Reporter: Jeb bush saying this in an interview. This is off-limits and Ted Cruz was absolutely right to be outraged. Reporter: Cruz even extending the message of shielding kids from the press across party lines. Don't mess with our kids. Don't mess with my kids, Marco's kids, Hillary's kids, anybody's kids. Reporter: Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton continue to clash on Twitter. The republican front-runner tweeting this warning after Clinton said trump is known for having a penchant for sexism in an interview trump tweeting, Hillary, when you complain about a penchant for sex itch, who are you referring to, I have great respect for women. Be careful. And Donald Trump has shown the power of social media. He's even sending out some of his Christmas cards via Twitter and Facebook.
