Reporter: This united airlines flight with 250 passengers onboard stranded for nearly 16 hours over the weekend on this frozen tarmac in Canada. Outside, a wind chill of minus 64 degrees. It is absolutely freezing outside. Reporter: The 24-hour ordeal starting on Saturday on a flight from Newark to Hong Kong when a medical emergency forced the plane to divert to a military base in goose bay, Canada. But with no customs staff at the airbase, those passengers were stuck on the plane. We were going to have to do an emergency landing because of a sick passenger. Reporter: United telling us part of the door froze because of those extreme temperatures. It's been cold. It's been hungry. Reporter: United then sending another plane to take those passengers back to New Jersey, arriving more than a day later. And David, tonight, united has apologized to those passengers, and say they've offered to rebook them. We're also told the airline will issue them a refound, compensation and hotel accommodations.
