Transcript for Americans are expected to spend nearly $1,000 on gifts this holiday season
Your money tonight, and under two weeks to go until Christmas. And this evening, tips to get cash back. Points and miles, too. ABC's chief business correspondent Rebecca Jarvis out to save your money. Reporter: Tonight, with the average American expected to shell out $825 on gifts this holiday, experts recommend using one the 50 sites and apps, from rakutan to ibotta to retailmenot, that pay you every time you shop, so you can give yourself a cashback Christmas. If you don't start at one of these sites you are literally leaving money or points and miles on the table. Reporter: At rakuten, for example, create a profile, search your favorite retailers, activate their offer and start shopping. Just through one program I've saved over $200. Reporter: Retailers pay different amounts depending on which portal you use. With website cashbackmonitor.com, you can track and compare the different deals. The retailer gets additional business, the portal gets a little cut of the money that you spent. Reporter: And David, one caution. The whole idea here is to save money. Don't let these incentives entice you into buying what you don't need or spending money you don't have. David? Always good advice. Rebecca, thank you.
