Next tonight, a Houston police officer with just a split second to react when an alleged drunk driver barrels toward him. The bodycams were rolling. ABC's janai Norman picks it up from here. Officer down, he jumped off the side of the freeway. Reporter: The terrifying Mont caught on tape. A Houston police officer making a split-second decision to get out of the way of an jom coming car. I heard a screeching of tires. Reporter: In late July, the officer forced off the side of the highway by an alleged drunk driver. Before I knew it, there was a car right up on me. I had less than a second to react to the situation. Reporter: That decision captured on officer Carter's bodycam saved his life when he and his partner were investigating an accident on highway in Houston. Watch again, as officer Carter finishes talking with the firefighter. Immediately two other first responders turn to look and then Carter forced off the guardrail. Hitting the ground 16 feet below. I'm falling and I just kept thinking to myself, "When am I gonna stop falling?" Reporter: Officer Carter left with multiple injuries, though tonight, grateful to be alive. If -- I know if I would have froze still, the car would've ran me over and, uh, probably would have taken my life and I wouldn't be here today.
