And we begin tonight with the breaking news, a close call at one of America's busiest airports. A drone flying within 100 feet of a passenger plane, approaching to land. It happened here at jfc, here's the plane on the tarmac. Cecelia Vega has the very latest on all of this. Reporter: The close call coming just minutes before landing. Delta flight 407 from Orlando, 159 passengers onboard. The jet, just 1,700 feet above ground. A drone in its path, only 100 feet away. Near an old, abandoned airfield. There was a drone flying. What altitude would you say it was? Probably 100 feet below us. Reporter: The pilot landing without incident. But air traffic control warning other planes of potential danger. These risky encounters on the rise. The FAA now reporting 25 drone incidents each month. The reason we don't want a drone close to airliners, the possibility of being ingested into an engine.
