Tonight, the state department reporting an American tourist, killed while on safari in South Africa. Attacked by a lion as she sat inside her car. ABC's Matt Gutman tonight. Reporter: Tonight, rangers here at the lion park safari investigating what went wrong when a lion mauled an American tourist, killing her. The unnamed American woman and her guide entered the lion enclosure before 2:30 local time. The lady was taking pictures of it. Reporter: That open window against explicit park rules. The lion then lunged at the car and it bit the lady through the window. Our staff immediately rushed over to chase the lion away and the gentleman that was driving, he sustained some injuries to his arms trying to get the lion out, as well.
