Transcript for 12-year-old author with Down syndrome is a viral sensation
We're back with world down's syndrome day coming up this weekend and one way to celebrate is by sharing this new book with children you love. It's inspired by down's syndrome activist and viral sensation Sophia Sanchez. Take a look. A special package came in the mail, and it said it was for Sophia. So do you want to open it? Yeah. The way Sophia came to be in our family is a really special story. When I gave birth to my third son Joaquin, he was born with down's syndrome, it was a surprise for us, so as we dove into learning about children that were abandoned and were orphaned because of their disability, we found an organization called Reece's rainbow and we went on this web site just wanting to donate some money in honor of a family member that had passed and in donating money, we found a little face that we fell in love with, and the little face was a beautiful little girl named Sophia. I'm so excited to meet this new book. "You are enough". When we first started working on "You are enough," it was kind of a dream. That's me. We collaborated with scholastic, which is just a huge honor to work with a book company as big as scholastic. The book portrays the world in a way where there's acceptance, where there's a circle to keep people in, instead of keep people out. I want you to read it. The book, why is it called "You are enough". Because you are enough too. We are all enough. My family, my friends are enough, too. I would describe Sophia Sanchez as multi-faceted, she has a lens for love, a lens for creativity, a lens for understanding people's viewpoints, from their own perspective. Our hope is that by sharing her story, people finding out that they're having a baby with down's syndrome will not be feared with fear and will be filled with maybe a sense of hope and excitement for this new journey that they're on. You're right center and front. Show the back. My heart. Do you like modeling and acting? Yes, I do. What's your favorite? Posing. Can you show us a pose? She's got that pose down and the smile to boot. Love that.
