Transcript for More than 41 million drivers expected to hit the road over July 4th holiday
Gas prices down 19 cents compared to this time last year and a record 41 million people are expected to drive over the holiday weekend. Nearly 2 million more than last year. The worst time to travel, tonight between 4:30 to 6:30. That's when traffic is expected to be at its slowest. Helicopter reporter Shannon sohn from our New York station W ABC is high above the big apple with how things are looking right now. Shannon, good morning. Yeah, and I'll tell you what, it has not been a great morning. I'm going to take you outside and show you what it looks like. We had major delays on the expressway that filtered into the George Washington bridge and the damage was done. Look at this volume at the tolls, trying to get across the bridge you can wait 45 minutes to an hour at this point. It's not looking much better at the Lincoln and Holland tunnels although you can cut it in half. So much of this is holiday getaway traffic and all of these people are going to be sitting in this on the way back as well. Shannon, thanks so much. Now to new details about president trump's fourth of July event at the Lincoln memorial.
