We begin with race to clean up a dangerous oil spill shutting down a Texas waterway. The oil poured into galveston to bay. Steve osunsami is there. Reporter: Good morning, Amy. They've hauled away the large barge that was sinking into the gulf and leaking oil. There are reports this morning of oil sheen on the top of this water as far as 12 miles away. Oh, my god. Reporter: This grainy video shows the moment when a ship crashes into this barge in the middle of deep fog. The impact spilling massive amounts of oil into this busy shipping channel outside Houston on Saturday. The light-colored patches in the water? All oil. At one point, 60 ships, three of them cruise ships were stuck on either side of the slick. Families and students on spring break were stranded. It's an adventure. It continues. Reporter: The coast guard and other authorities have been trying to clean up the waters all night. As much as 168,000 gallons spill into the bay. The barge had a total of 1 million barregallons of oil. They spread buoys to try to contain it. The extent that the environment is moving the oil is something that our reconnaissance teams are paying keen attention to. Reporter: To put this in perspective. This is a relatively small oil spill compared to the "Exxon Valdez" that happened 25 years ago to this day and involved 10 million gallons of oil. Amy? All right. Steve, thank you so much.
