Transcript for Lava spews from Hawaii volcano
Now to that volcano emergency in Hawaii. New images this morning showing that dangerous lava spewing as some residents return home to find, well, giant cracks on their land. Clayton Sandell is on the big island with the latest. Good morning. Reporter: Good morning. This is still a very active eruption behind me. Lava is spewing in some cases hundreds of feet into the air here I want to show you new video from overnight. We're not only seeing these large Orange lava fountains but blue flames coming out of the ground. Very unusual site and that is happening because of methane gas that is trapped underneath the lava. You mentioned cracks. Some residents are coming home to find cracks running hundreds of feet through their yard. The first that lava is creeping toward a highway and if it crosses that highway, a thousand people could be cut off so the National Guard is coming up with a plan to use helicopters to get those people out. The second worry, toxic gases. The trade winds right now are blowing them away from us but if that changes there could be more evacuations on the way, robin. Thank you. George.
