The driver, the suspect they were chasing, then surrounded a short time ago, taken into custody. Again, as I mentioned, the driver did survive, but it is difficult to watch. And ABC's kayna Whitworth from Los Angeles now. Pursuit under way. It's been going on for some time. Reporter: The high speed chase on one of America's busiest freeways started with police pursuing this car with a hole in its rear window. Police cruisers keeping their distance when the red older model Honda civic plows down a person riding a scooter in the middle of the road. The force shattering the windshield.
